Cheap spindle lamp DIY.

If you don't have a lot of money to spend on furnishing your home here is a great way to get your lighting for very cheap. These gorgeous spindle lamps everywhere and I want to show you how to make them. First seek out your local goodwill and find a brass lamp like the one below. There seriously a dime a dozen so pick out one with a great shape to it!

All you'll need is:

1) Your lamp.
2) A plastic baggy
3) Painters tape
4) Spray primer
5) Spray paint
6) and a matte, satin, or high gloss clear coat spray

I used a bright white, not a heirloom white. Although you can see in my shop I usually use a heirloom white. I wanted to copy the bright white lamp in the picture above.

Step 1. Scrub your vintage lamp good so the surface is nice and smooth. Years of build up will leave who knows what.

Step 2) Wrap the head of your lamp and cord of your lamp with a baggy and keep it secure with the paints tape.  Also wrap any existing cord with more painters tape.

Step 3) Paint one coat of primer on the lamp as directed, wait 5 min. to dry. Then paint a second coat. Wait 5 minutes to dry.

Step 4) Spray 2 coats of paint as directed on the can. Wait at least 10 minutes between coats to dry. If there are any imperfections after last coat wait 30 min to insure coats are dry and buff with a very fine grit sand paper and you can paint a final coat.

Tip: Make sure to also spray bottom upwards to get underneath the spindles.

Step 5) End spraying your clear coat and wait 15 min.

With simple fabric glue you can also add a thin ribbon to the top and bottom of you lamp shade!
